Don't miss the Beautiful Models.

Beautiful, glamorous, graceful fashion models--these almost otherworldly creatures have the rare talent (and some would say the great privilege) of bringing fashion into the real world. Until a fashion model slips into a hand-dyed Tao wrap or an A.F. Vandevorst suit, the clothing has no life. TV fashion models provide the beauty and soul that transform mere clothing into great art.
Is it really any wonder that the world's best fashion models inspire passionate admiration from their greatest fans? For lovers of fashion (and lovers of human beauty), fashion models are even more luminous than movie stars. They are the real celebrities, for their beauty is nothing short of perfect.
If you're interested in seeing your favorite fashion models at work on the runway, or if you hope to discover the newest "First Face" in the modeling world, then you'll love Fashion TV and With our hundreds of runway shows, clips, and fashion programs, plus our videos on demand (VOD) and model contests, we provide incomparable access to the world's most dazzling models.

Valentino went out.

Pretty in Frilly Pink! The beautiful soft pink line was definitely the eye catcher of the day in Paris. Valentino's Valiant Last Show in Paris, ended with fond farewells and tearful goodbyes. His final designs, brought us back to the Jackie Kennedy styles, and were as lovely as the days she wore them. Bravo!
If you're not familiar with Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani, known as 'Valentino', perhaps you could recognize him by some of the designs you've seen over the past 45 years.
Ever hear of the polka-dot print?
If you still aren't sure who Valentino is?
Ok, think Jackie Kennedy.
Jackie Kennedy's style is an icon. Her suit style in particular. Yes, Valentino is the man who made Jackie Kennedy into the best dressed President's wife ever known. Her style and grace is unsurpassed, and the elegant beauty of Jackie is one that will always inspire the occasions were women want to be well dressed, and stylish. Valentino, and Jackie Kennedy were friends, and he even designed the dress for her second marriage to Greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis.
Anyone familiar with the exquisite clothes worn by Joan Crawford, Greta Garbo, Gloria Swanson, or Merle Oberon, Princess Margaret and Marella Agnelli?
Elizabeth Taylor, in animal prints, and white pleats?
How about smart, easy to wear, very sharp, perfectly tailed, sleek clothes for wealthy, and high powered executive business clothes. For Women, and Men?
Frills, bows, ruffles, and flawlessly tailored cuts, crepe sheaths? (Without over accessorizing.)
Getting warmer?
Ok, now it's coming back to you! The one thing about the fashion designers that no one really considers, is that the clothes you buy, even from a department store originally came from the initial design of a fashion designer. The clothes are created for lines, organized by the seasons, and featured on the runways in the major cities where the fashion houses live. Then the conceptual designs are passed down, as the trends have been set, and by the time you go buy a nice red cardigan at JC Penny, it is actually a part of the entire bubble of Fashion for example, the Fall/Winter line. The buyers also take a huge part in what lines the stores carry, and a whole host of other goings on occurs, but in a nutshell, that's how it works.
Valentino's lines in itself, was always focused on women, and making them look elegant and beautiful. Valentino prided his work, with grand efforts to celebrate women, and see women in a light that was sophisticated, and made women feel like a queen when she stepped out of the house wearing his designs.
If you've seen a smart business suit, or an elegant laced, v-neck blazer, with a simple three quarter length skirt, that made you smile with awe. Then there's a good chance, you were looking a Valentino, or influenced by Valentino design.
All women around the globe are buzzing about Valentino's retirement, in one way or another we all have been affected by his influence, and have adored those who loved him.
There are still some wonderful designer's flowing through the runways, such as Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent known as Yves Saint-Laurent, Gucci, who will still be there, with their traditional and classic styles. All of the brethren of Fashion design inspire and support one another.
Valentino, mind you, isn't going very far. He will be working on setting up his museum in San Teodoro in Rome, and he aspires to create Operatic Clothing lines.
Some interesting facts about Valentino.
Elizabeth Taylor had a great influence on Valentino, and had inspired him and his partner, Giancarlo Giammetti, to support AIDS victims, where they had created a charity organization known as L.I.F.E., which is sponsored by Accademia Valentino.
The Devil Wears Prada, with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, Valentino made an appearance in the Movie, as himself.
Valentino's announcement back in July of this year was an elite event in Rome the post-show gala dinner and ball took place in the Parco dei Daini at the Villa Borghese.
Stars such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Uma Thurman, and Anne Hathaway, attended. Sarah Jessica Parker looked lovely in black draperies, and Eva Mendes was in a delightful ebony crepe sheath (as designed in 1965), in respect to Rosso Valentino, his trademark for his love of red. Jennifer Hudson wore an elegant flowing gown.
Ohh ladies if you missed out on his last Spring/Summer showing for Valentino, you should tune into FTV, and check.. it.. out! At the end of this article there are two links, one from FTV, and one from Vogue featuring the Valentino fashion line.
Valentino's show in Paris, had a variety of easy to wear women's clothes, staying true to his usual style, to make women look fabulous in clothes that are comfortable to wear.
The pink dresses were so gorges! With ruffles of lace, boa trims, and exquisite pink shoes to match. The toned down versions, of creams, gray and white suits, remind me of the Jackie Kennedy style. Very chic, with the knee length hemline tapered skirt, to Jackie Kennedy collar, elegant lace accents. Valentino out did himself, leaving women with elegance and luxury for his final fashion look. The gals on the runway were dressed in a dazzling, and sophisticated Valentino style, as always.
Sarah Jessica Parker, and Anne Hathaway stopped by to say hello to FTV, while at the Valentino Show!

All eyes are on Paris for this falls Fashion Week. The Powers of Fashion Seem to be divided on the issue of Anorexia and Models.
The Fashion week in Milan, Italy started off with a bang! A week prior to the kick off for Fashion Week, as the campaign waged against Anorexia was displayed in a poster Modeled by French Actress Isabel Caro, taken by the controversial photographer, Toscani, known for his impacting photos of aids victims.
During last years controversy over the death of three models, due to anorexia, the fashion world reacted by taking action on awareness of anorexia, and creating a healthy environment for the models walking the runways. The talks were held privately with Health Officials and Fashion House Representatives, from Nation to Nation, where the major houses of Fashion Lives. London, Milan, Spain, and Brazil, kept their promise to set a criteria for the Modeling Industry, but France remained firm in their objection to mingling Fashion and the term 'anorexia', where they have demonstrated beliefs that anorexia has nothing to do with the Fashion world.
But after a week of grand attention, and reactions to the billboard in Milan, the world is waiting with bated breath to see what Paris will do, during the upcoming Fashion Week, commencing this Saturday.
The buzz on the street says, France is divided. As the two Couture Houses are split on their decision. The Ready-to-wear Houses are not as hostile to the concept that some Models do suffer from anorexia, and they are quite willing to help.
Didier Grumbach, head of the French Couture Federation, publicly makes no qualms about rejecting the concept of mixing skinny Models, and anorexia. That side of the fence has their heels dug, to remain constant and reject any change in the Fashion image of too-skinny Models.
Where it is a fact, that the Modeling Industry isn't entirely to blame for anorexia, there is a piece of the responsibility of imaging, and sending messages to young girls, that come from all aspects of the media range. Which that category does entail Fashion. Not all countries would agree that the Fashion World can utterly refuse to accept that anorexia is strongly associated with Models, and has been for a long time. Its not a new concept by no means, and thanks to leading edge countries such as Italy, Brazil, UK, and Spain, its finally become socially acceptable to publicly discuss it, and take action.
On the other side of the fence in Paris?
One of the Leading Fashion Houses, Prada, for example, had no qualms about smoothing into a transition of displaying their models, without a 00 in the midst. Lara Stone, a size 8 Dutch model with a 34in bustline showing through her see-through fine-knit shirt, was selected last week by Prada to head the label, which her grandfather founded. Also the fact that she is a mother, adds to the glory for women! Designers, agencies, and the public alike are applauding Prada, for staying in the lead of Fashion, but taking the lead on bringing back healthy Models to the fashion industry.
The buzz on the street in Paris says, Isabel Caros' Nude Anorexic Poster could run in the national French newspaper Libération next week, although that is an unconfirmed report, and it could be possible that the billboard will also be displayed, barring the naked truth about anorexia.

Is Britney the "Perfect 10?"

When you think about all the controversy over recent years circling around the perfect size of an actress, the physical attributes that call for criticism against the skeletal body shape for example, we saw that actresses began to give Models a run for their money when it came to being too thin.
This certainly created more and more taunting from the press over bad imaging and unfair role modeling for young girls. After all, young girls were starving themselves to the point of hospitalization, girls as young as 10 years old were stealing diet pills from drug stores trying to imitate the skin over bones look that they saw in the media. This thankfully, gave the modeling world a wake up call. Models were starting to be presented as healthy, the scraggly, death warmed over starving look was fading out. They now proudly say that they provide food for the Models in the backroom! That is a major deal, it's a really bold and huge move in the Modeling world.
Now, we all are aware that when Britney Spears walked the stage of the MTV Awards on Sept 10 007, in her black bikini, the crude comments in the press calling her belly pudgy, even Paris Hilton put in her two cents with rejection to the singers physical attributes, has made the progress of a healthy image slide backwards.
Yes, Britney might have been in error in not realizing that when you make a comeback, it is usually expected that one changes their image to enhance the new you! She blew the opportunity to wow the crowd with a new look, creating a new trend, and she obviously wasn't paying attention, realizing that the fashion world changed while she was in between her career and home life. It is wise to do your homework and keep up to speed, especially when fashion changes so rapidly, and the trends progress and have been improving!
The question is: Was it her outfit that was unappealing, or was it the fact that the image we have grown accustomed to is so distorted that a natural figure is automatically rejected?
Alyssa Milano when she was filming the TV show Charmed thought nothing of wearing belly tops, strutting around in the overly fashionable style not unlike the 90210 fantasy clothes that were worn at that time. I don't recall anyone rejecting her outfits, or waist size, and she was proud of her healthy figure, and it was sexy. She was hot! She set a trend that you can be proud of your body, and not have to starve half to death to get there! She had curves to be proud of, and more young girls should aspire to be like Alyssa.
Marilyn Monroe was a perfect 10. She had a full healthy figure and is the most prime example of an all American Girl that will stand the test of time. Full figured, charming and the sexiest icon to ever hit the screens.
So what happened to image of size?
Some say it's because of the World's first Super Model Twiggy!
Twiggy hit the modeling world back in the late 60's, and the fashion world was astounded by her boyish haircut, and paper thin look. Ever since, the young girls aspired to be as thin as Twiggy. Not to blame Twiggy, she looked fabulous, healthy even, she just caught attention and set a trend.
The fashion world changed in the 70's. They called for thin, demanded it, starved the girls, and wouldn't' accept any model that wasn't far below the percentage of acceptable levels of body fat. No one really knows who was calling for the look. The designer's don't dress the girls, the agents don't write up the requests, the girl's do what they are told, and the photographer's the same. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter whose fault it is, what is important is that after 30 years the fashion world changed. The untold stories from the models who were there may never be known, but most people would agree, that it's refreshing that the image is improved.
It is a fact that the girls can't get any thinner! Their veins would collapse, and a whole world of new diseases would be born. It is a fact that the world has changed. Men and women create their own styles, trends aren't as strong an issue to people, as people tend to lean more towards styles that suit them individually. It is now socially acceptable for people to admit that what looks good on one person, doesn't necessarily mean it looks good on another.
This is the decade for actors! They are finally in league with Models. They are revered, adored and respected in the fashion sense as much as a Super Model. Super Models are still in the royal ranks of course, FTV RULES!!
Because of FTV, people are starting to see Models as real people. We have seen that Models are sweet, and they have ohhh you know, brains! They aren't as serious as they look when they strut the catwalk. FTV has really opened up a whole new look on Models, and have introduced the public eye to the real people who make the magic happen. Models are simply put: Are cute, and lovable, they have a good business sense, have personal lives, and love their work! And with behind the scene glimpses, we get to see how the acting world has an influence on the Modeling world, as more and more actors are attending Fashion Events, and are actively involved.
Now to the point!
The acting world in this decade have the chance to invoke change in media image! If you actors and actresses are paying attention, you will see the great opportunity that lies right in front of you!
They say when Calista Flockhart starred in the hit TV show Alley McBeal on Primetime TV, some say she started the skeletal scraggly image, (that is not a fact, but what the media has painted. This is not mentioned as a digg at Calista, she was doing her thing, excited to have her own tv show, it just happens that the press found her interesting, and focussed on her body. And Calista is a beautiful actress, and is still doing well co-starring with Sally Fields in Brother's and Sisters.
Since the press began to focus on the waistline of an actress, it was a huge turn around for the imagery of an actor. The race was on and the media kept a tally of who was the thinnest, and reporting on the struggles an actress would face, such as the adventures of Mary Kate and Ashley! Who were unable to escape attention to their bodies by the press.
Liposuction has become popular with men and women, and is still a huge business for plastic surgeons in the race for the perfect size 00, as mentioned during an episode of Desperate Housewives by Eva Longoria, playing Gabrielle Solis. (Mind you, we all know Eva was saying a line, and that in no way reflects on the opinion of the actress). Even though the media turns their eye on Teri Hatcher (Susan) criticizing her for losing too much weight since she starred in the hit series (Lois and Clark) Superman, and Marcia Cross (Bree) being dubbed by the press for the lead competitor with Terri for the skinniest of all the Desperate Housewives girls, they must have missed the slip of the tongue, with a size 00! The criticism the girls recieved about their weight of course was unfair, but the size 00, well.. that needs to be thought out a little.
Wouldn't that send a message to the youth watching, that they aren't beautiful until that is their dress size? Perhaps the show was demonstrating that the character is too obessesed with being the skinniest, it's just the fact that the Modeling World is changing for the healthier. Maybe next season they will have the character's promote healthy Models, and women alike. Time will tell. In a nutshell, we all know the media likes watching waist lines, and the girls of Desperate Housewives aren't in a competetion over who is the smallest, it's just what the press at this day and age focuses on.
But now, let's face it, it's worn out. It's time for a change! Why not come up with a new look that will wow them again! Like I said before, girls can't get any thinner, or they'd be dead. Tattoos and body piercing is so highly over rated! The school girl looks been done. Take a look at all the trends that have come and gone. Then take a good look at your headshots, get some body shots of yourself done as well, and try designing yourself a new image. If you come up with nothing, then go to an image consultant, talk to your hair stylist. Start with your favorite icon image and add your own taste. At the end of the day, it might just be the most valuable thing you've ever done for your career!
I wonder if the media took the focal point off the waist line, and filled the airways of chatter about something besides weight and dress size, if this issue would simply fade, and people would stop noticing it soo much?
This article can't go into conclusion until we've explored two of the most beautiful and exotic women in the public eye today, Jennifer Lopez, and Drew Barrymore!
Jen Lopez has made great effort in her recent films to project a healthy woman's image, and she is to be commended for being comfortable enough with her own beauty to make unflattering references to her own body. In her film Monster-in-law, there was a scene where a Vintage Dress was given to her, purposely the in the wrong dress size. Poor Jen struggled on film to slip into the dress until the dress was torn, and she was unsuccessful. She has made reference to having a large buttocks in other films, too. What is so impressive, is that she is sending a clear message to the girls, that it's ok not to fit into the smallest dress ever made, that being Latino means you are curvy, and have meat on your bones, and damn girls this is sexy! And she is right! What man wouldn't melt down to his toes from the mere sight of Jen Lopez? She is a fabulous dancer, a successful singer, and a wonderful actress! She is also creating a trend that no other Celebrity can touch! And if they wanted to, they'd have to work pretty damned hard to catch up to her image.

How to lose your partner without meaning to Jealousy.

Jealousy is a negative emotion that damages many otherwise good relationships. Excessive jealousy arises because of one of two unattractive assumptions. These are that your partner can't be trusted or that you are not sufficiently attractive to your partner to hold their interest.
Most jealousy is irrational based on fear of losing the loved one. Ironically it's this fear and the way that it makes people act, which is most likely to bring the feared loss about. Anyone who constantly accuses their partner of misbehaving, expects them to account for their time, pries into their mail, email or telephone communications is behaving unreasonably.
They are probably acting out of fear or at least lack of confidence but that makes their behaviour no less distressing to the person experiencing it.
If either you or your partner is excessively jealous this can only damage your relationship, cause you both misery. In some instances it will it make continuing the relationship impossible.
So how can you tackle this source of harm to your relationship? Firstly by making this decision, if your partner has given you no grounds for suspicion that's probably because there aren't any. In other words they are not misbehaving and you have every reason to trust them.
If you feel that your partner has given you grounds for suspicion then you will need to look at those grounds reasonably. Questions I often ask to people who consult me about this problem are "when"? "Where"? and "why"? do you think that your partner might be being unfaithful?
It's surprising that the people who suffer from excessive jealousy often have partners who are rarely out of their sight. Surely a partner who wanted to be unfaithful would create opportunities to be away from them. However the fact that your partner may work long or irregular hours or travel on business does not mean that they are being unfaithful. The fact that someone may have an opportunity to behave in a particular way doesn't mean that they will or even have any desire to.
These are some of the most common answers that I receive to the question "why, do you think that your partner is being unfaithful"? He's started to come home from work late, lost interest in sex, come home smelling of perfume in the case of a man, s/he has started to lie about where they are spending their time when not at home, I just feel that s/he is having an affair.
When we look at these behaviours reasonably most have innocent explanations. Staying late at work for example could simply mean that s/he is trying to catch up on a backlog of work or avoid driving home in the rush hour. Loss of interest in sex could be as a result of tiredness, depression, hormonal changes, health problems or a side effect of prescribed medication.
The fact that your partner lies about where s/he is spending time when not with you could have a number of explanations some innocent, some less so. Your partner could be lying to cover up an addiction to drink, drugs or gambling. Wouldn't you want to help them if this were the case? Or they could be working extra hours in order to give you a special gift or take you on a wonderful holiday.
"Why" is a very important question? Why did you think that your partner was having an affair when there were so many other possible explanations for their changed behaviour? The chances are that the answer is in your past, did one of your parents cheat on the other? Have you had this negative experience in a past relationship? If so its important to realise that what happened is in the past. I understand that it was painful but dwelling on it is only likely to damage your current relationship. It's really important to let go of this negativity so that it doesn't hurt you and the person that you love. Invest in professional help if necessary. It's worth making the effort.
So far I have addressed this article to the person suffering the torments of their own suspicious mind. Now I want to turn from the perspective of the accuser to the accused. To suffer the torments of your partner's suspicious mind can be hell. As hard as you try to reason with them it seems to fall on deaf ears.
Realising why they are behaving in this illogical fashion may help. Strange as it sounds they are acting out of love (yes, I know that a jealous persons behaviour can seem anything but loving) and fear the fear that you will leave them. Reassurance may help. Try to explain that they are loved and you are not involved with or seeking to be involved with someone else. Try also raising the questions posed above. "Why do you think that I would want to have an affair with someone else"? "What makes you think that I am having an affair"? "When do you think that I spend time with this man or woman"? In answering these questions the accuser will probably reveal his/her need for you as their partner and fear that you might leave. This will make discussion easier as it is getting closer to the true source of the problem. That being not the returning home from work later or seeming to have less interest in sex; these are just the happenings that have triggered insecurity in the accuser.
It might help to share with your partner the everyday reason as to why you are returning from work later or for any other change in your behaviour. Keeping your jealous partner informed would ease their insecurities.
In the same vein if you have a jealousy problem just imagine how irritating it would feel to have your partner constantly questioning how you spend your time when not in their company People tormenting themselves and their partners with jealousy need to learn trust. Your partner is not the parent or past partner who behaved badly in your eyes. Your jealous behaviour is the greatest threat to your relationship not other people who may find your partner attractive.Your partner has chosen you.
Remember the qualities that caused them to choose you and continue to display those qualities. If you are on the receiving end of displays of jealousy try to remember that your accuser is suffering too. It's hard to be sympathetic to someone who is behaving in this fashion. However it's a joint problem so you need to solve it together. Your partner must have some good and loving qualities or you would not be remaining in the relationship. Perhaps with patience and reassurance you can talk things through and solve your problem. It's unlikely to happen overnight. However reassurance could help your partner to relax leading to less jealous displays leading to a better relationship. Or you may need to seek professional help.
This article deals with the subject of irrational jealousy. The situation where life partners are actually having affairs is beyond its scope.

Fetish Wear is meant to be provocative.

Fetish wear is a term that is largely understood but in essence it is clothing that is at the extreme, designed to make you stand out, look different and not a part of your daily wardrobe. Clearly this definition could refer to a great many items so you have a lot of latitude when deciding what to wear.
The more unusual and sexy an outfit is the more likely you are wearing fetish wear. Many times the term gothic and fetish are used interchangeably but the term fetish goes well beyond gothic and in some ways gothic is a very limited category. A fetish is defined as "an object of irrational reverence or obsessive devotion". Again going to the extreme is a part of the term fetish and to a great degree that is the definition we will use to describe fetish wear. A shoe is unlikely to be a fetish but a woman's shoe with a six inch heel enters into the realm of a fetish shoe. A body stocking made of stretch spandex and sheer lace is a full bodysuit while a cat suit made of latex rubber is clearly a fetish item.
So who wears fetish wear and why? Depending on the item the person wearing fetish wear will vary. A woman wearing a leather outfit from her panties and bra to a mini skirt and vest is wearing fetish wear although the more we see the use of an item once considered fetish wear the more it becomes mainstream and loses its fetish designation. In order to be a fetish item it needs to be extreme and perhaps provocative to keep its fetish designation. Once it becomes co-opted by the mainstream it ceases to have a fetish pedigree and something that suburban kids wear and is found at your local mall.
Clothing is always in a state of flux as many fetish items make it to the fashion runways but never catch on in mid America simply due to the extreme nature of the garment. Fashion designers often intend to stretch the envelope with their designs but the concept falls flat as wearing the garment or a knock off doesn't work on main street. Latex is an example of a garment that may or may not take the step into mainstream fashion. Latex is simply rubber that is cut and formed into a garment such as a latex mini dress. Latex is very stretchy and conforms to a man's or a woman's body. Ultra sexy and provocative a sexy mini latex dress is often worn to fetish balls as an expression of sexuality as well as a fashion statement. Only time will tell if a woman wears it to the local clubs and what the reactions will be. Another fetish items are high heels that at 3 and 4 inches high are mainstream or sexy shoes. They become fetish heels when the heels are extremely high and contort a woman's feet making it virtually impossible to walk much less dance. Again the extreme nature of the garment or shoe puts it in the fetish arena.
A garment that is mainstream can become a fetish item by how it is worn. A mini skirt that covers a woman's body allowing some modesty becomes a fetish item once the length is provocative and extreme. The same applies with a corset that worn as a shaper or for the purpose of increasing a woman's cleavage becomes a fetish corset once it is worn so tight that a woman's figure is distorted into an hour glass shape causing distress or pain.

Medical School Admissions: Advice to Get In.

Here are some essentials for medical school applicants to improve their chances of acceptance. The AMCAS application opens in May and can be submitted in early June so, be ready!
1. Submit an early application Everything you read tells you that the #1 rule of medical school admissions is to apply early. But, I find that many applicants still ignore this advice. You should not only submit your application as early as possible but also make sure that your transcripts and letters of reference are sent in promptly.
2. Take your MCAT exam early Again, the key word here is "early." Your application will not be reviewed until your pending MCAT scores are in so, if you have worked hard to submit your AMCAS application in June, don't negate this effort by taking an August MCAT.
3. Don't apply once for "a practice run" Yes, people do this. I suggest applying only when you are truly ready. While the stigma of being a reapplicant is declining, being a third-time applicant does trigger a negative bias, so it is best to try and make your application as perfect as possible the first time around. Take an honest inventory of your stats, experiences and accomplishments and decide if you are ready to apply or if you must do something to enhance your candidacy.
4. Apply broadly It may be your dream to attend a top 10 medical school, but be realistic. Too often, applicants apply to only a few schools initially and limit their chances. It is important to apply to a broad range of schools both in terms of geography and ranking. Around this time of year, I receive calls from applicants who say "Well, I didn't get in last year but I applied only to five schools because I wanted to stay in California." If you really want to increase your chances of being accepted, do not limit yourself.
5. Think about your story I encourage applicants to think about their unique story and path to medical school. What motivates you? What are the overarching themes in your background and experiences? Why do you want to be a physician? Really thinking about who you are, how you got there and what you hope to do in the future will set the stage for your entire application process. Think about this throughout your education. And, remember, nothing is set in stone. As you develop new interests, expertise and hobbies, your story will evolve and change. Just make sure that your story doesn't have any major unaccounted gaps in time because admissions committee members often regard these gaps as "red flags."
6. Make your application entries descriptive While some applicants write a bulleted and brief description for each AMCAS entry, my advice is always to give as much information as possible in your written activities descriptions. You have a 1325 character limit per entry so, unless you have nothing to say about your experiences (which would be a red flag in my book), use this space to your advantage. The person who wants to read less can opt to skim your entries but the person who wants more information won't take the time to pick up the phone and inquire about your experiences. These descriptions present an opportunity to write about your insights, experiences, accomplishments and observations.
7. Do not regurgitate your application entries in your personal statement It is important to say something new, different and fresh in your personal statement that does not repeat your application entries. Interestingly, I find that many applicants shy away from the very topics and aspects of their backgrounds that make them unique. Applicants also lament that they don't really have a story or anything special about them. Boloney. Every applicant has a compelling story, but sometimes you need an outsider to bring it into focus. Often applicants are self conscious about the very experiences that will make them more compassionate providers (and more attractive applicants), such as being an immigrant, growing up with few opportunities or having their own encounters with illness. Applicants often say, "I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me and I don't want to tell a sob story." As long as you present your story in a matter- of- fact way and write about the positive direction of your path, you won't be perceived as a whiner. It is often the most challenging times in our lives that are the most catalytic, and any experienced medical educator understands this.
8. Fill out your secondary essays in timely fashion Here is that theme again. Early, early, early. For schools that have secondaries, your application won't be screened until the secondaries are in.
9. Practice Interviewing Many applicants think interviewing is easy and, for some, it is, but everyone needs practice. Even if you are a great public speaker, sitting down and talking about yourself one on one with a person in a position of authority does not usually come naturally. Also remember that you can guide your interview and highlight what you think is most important about you. Most medical school interviews are fairly low stress and conversational, so enter your interview knowing which experiences and thoughts you want to discuss and emphasize. When I do mock interviews with clients, I am often surprised at how many people, including those with a long list of impressive achievements, are not able to present their stories cohesively and comprehensively.
10. Make every interview count Every interview is an opportunity for an acceptance. Be sure to smile, be positive and be personable on your interview day. Regardless of "scoring systems" or "rankings," there is a huge subjective component when evaluating an interviewee. This "halo effect" works both ways; if someone perceives you positively, this will likely carry over to everything about you and your candidacy, whereas if someone perceives you negatively, the opposite is true. I have several clients who received only one interview invitation which resulted in an acceptance. So, approach every interview, literally, as if it is the only one.
11. Get good advice This isn't as easy as it sounds. Seek out individuals who are knowledgeable about medical school admissions and provide sound guidance. When I used to evaluate applicants as an admissions officer, it was often obvious when an applicant received bad guidance because they did not have the best mix of experiences, had poorly written documents or weak interview skills.

One of the bride's dilemmas is choosing the right wedding dress for her. In a time like today where there are so many designers who come up with fantastic and fabulous, coming up with just one dress for the most important day of her life.
If you're a bride-to-be, you're probably sharing the same dilemmas as all other brides. Coming up with the perfect dress for your wedding day will be challenging. This is the reason why you must have criteria when selecting your perfect dress. Here are some suggestions:
• Designer
If you're a bride who is conscious on who will design the gown, it's better to look at the previous works of the designer first before visiting his shop. Take a look at the fashion spreads found in bridal magazines. This will save you time in going to the stores, fitting the gowns and still going home empty handed.
• Color
You might think that wedding gowns only come in white. Think again. Today, wedding gowns come in different colors. There are available white wedding gowns that use other colors for accents. You can have a white dress and put colorful beadwork and embroidery for a splash of color.
• Style
The style of the wedding dress is also important. Brides would want to look absolutely perfect on their big day by hiding the bulges or the unflattering fat that they don't want others to see. The best option that you choose the style based on your body shape.
• Preference and taste
Of course, since it's your wedding day, it is only proper that your preference and taste be taken into consideration. Aside from looking good and radiant in your dress, you'd want to feel good wearing it.

Wedding gowns come with veils which come in various lengths. Make sure that the gown you're about to choose looks well with the desired length of your veil.

New Asian Fashions 2009..

The word "Fashion" holds different meaning for every different person. Where it might mean the feel good factor to one person another might define it as following latest trends set by the fashion icons and superstars.
Adhering to Fashion has become the unsaid and untold norm and a subtle sort of compulsion for today's society. It won't be an exaggeration if fashion is called the new religion for the "enlightened and more aware" youth of today.
The word fashion has long since been associated for the feminine, the ladies. This statement though correct to some extent is not the complete truth. Men like to pursue fashion the same way as women but the difference is in their modest attitude as they don't flaunt. They follow fashion to their desires and consider more on the comfortable feel rather than going for the "in thing".
So the fashion trends will be discussed here from the feminine perspective as they are basically the ambassadors of fashion. Another reason accounting for the ladies pursuing fashion more than men is that the element of beauty and sensitivity has always been associated to them.
The trends which will be followed in 2009 by the fashion industry are:
Head gear will be en-vogue and pursued with the same passion by the fashion lovers in 2009 like foot wear especially the "gladiator sandal" in 2008. This fact is pretty evident from the various fashion shows and catwalk all around the globe from New York to Milan. Head gear consisting of hats, scarves or head bands in accordance with the colors of your outfit coupled with some ribbons of contrasting colors would be in fashion this year i.e. 2009.
Those weary and undecided of using hats would be advised to for the bright colored scarves.
Most importantly Gold is going to be the color of the fashion industry for 2009 and will be used in every imaginable accessory and clothing. It will be evident in dresses, shoes, head gears, handbags and everything else imaginable. One of the heart throbbing dresses for 2009 would be a golden gown worn with black shoes and accessorized with large sized glittery hand bag to give you the red carpet and celebrity feel.
The existing wardrobe could be updated economically by using your black dresses with the flashy golden belts and sandals. This look can be stressed upon further by applying golden tone eye shadows and dark lashes.
Coming to the most dominant accessory of one's dressing; the jewelry this year is going to be larger than the normal sized. This includes large diamonds and stones used. Extremely large-sized earrings, elaborately designed necklaces, bracelets adorned with stones and brooches are not going to raise any eye-brows and will be the fashion accessories.
The fashion scene in Asia in 2009 promises to be very trendsetting, and offers an array of options for those looking to change their look and style. Whether it be shoes, scarves, bold colors or jewelry, you can be sure that fashion in Asia this year is alive and well.

Choosing Fashion Hair Replacement Wigs..

Do you want to be a blonde one day and a redhead the next? One way to do this is to dye your own hair and restyle it, but you can achieve the same effect with much less effort - just buy a wig. To select a hair replacement wig that would be indistinguishable from real human hair and become your favorite fashion accessory, though, you need to know a few insider tips.
First of all, if you're worried that a hair replacement wig will look natural on your head, never fear! A properly made wig - even the quality synthetic varieties - can look totally realistic.
Which is better - synthetic or human hair wigs?
Hair replacement wigs can be synthetic or made from real human hair. Synthetic wigs are cheaper, but the very cheap ones you can find online don't look real enough. On the other hand, high quality synthetic wigs as hair replacement like Revlon, Raquel Welch or Paula Young wigs look very real. Also, synthetic wigs are easier to care for, as you don't need to restyle them every time you wash them.
Hair replacement wig made of human hair is in limited supply, so it is much more expensive; typically they several hundred dollars. Human hair wigs look and feel very natural. However, it is important to know that the quality of your hair replacement wig depends on the origin of the hair used. The cheapest hair comes from Asian countries, but their texture is different from the hair of European women. The best human hair wigs are made from European hair but, unfortunately, they cost a small fortune.

Get to Know Your Pantyhose in and Out..

Pantyhose, a type of women`s garment, tightly encases the body from waist downward to the feet. These sheer nylon leg encasings shape the body and legs and comes in various styles and sizes. These are also called `tights` as they closely contour the legs.
By the 1960s they provided a convenient substitute to stockings as they were considered to be highly fashionable and prevented skin irritation between foot and footwear. They also provided warmth to the legs and feet while at the same time hid skin blemishes like varicose veins, bruises or scars.
In western countries pantyhose is essential for women when formal dresses are worn. Even in schools, training institutes, and companies that have short skirts or shorts as uniform have panty hose as a compulsory part of their uniform. This terminology has its origin in the U.S. while in the U.K. the sheer nylon hosiery was referred to as `tights`. In the U.S. tights were considered to be thicker, non-sheer utility clothing worn by either gender during athletic practices.
With the rise in women dress hem lines in the late 1920s, the concept of pantyhose previously called `stockings`, evolved. By 1960, improved manufacturing with better quality cheaper materials, like spandex made pantyhose comfortable and more accessible. With the advent of miniskirts pantyhose became a fashion statement and sales of pantyhose exceeded the sales of stockings. Through 1980s, the popularity of this piece of garment grew phenomenally and led to the development of niche market for fashion designers.
Usually, pantyhose has a waist comprising of strong elastic while thicker material cover the hip and the gusset while the leg portion is made of the finest materials. Most of them use a mixture of nylon and spandex which provides elasticity and is body hugging which is its primary characteristic. Variation exists such as fishnet, cotton or woolen materials. These are all available in diverse colors styles. The sheerness of the garment ranges from 3 up to 30 expressing their transparency.
The control top pantyhose create a slimmer outline for women while the sheer ones are designed for use with high slit gowns and miniskirts. These garments are indispensable in cold weather and under low humidity condition as it prevents the legs from becoming too dry. Such support hosiery products also mitigate pain on the back of the legs and help in regulating blood circulation. However, nylon or synthetic pantyhose made of non-absorbent material, which are too tight contributes to unhygienic virus infection.
Though traditionally they are associated with women wear, it is occasionally worn by men for thermal protection and therapeutic relief. Usually race horse jockeys wear them to avoid friction of their skin when riding at rapid pace. Similarly, fishermen surfing for fish in the tropical beaches use them as a precaution against jelly fish. To cater to this niche market, in the 1990s quite a few small entrepreneurs launched various men styles in pantyhose.
The opaque pantyhose are available in various colors which are of lycra and usually depict the dragon print variety. These coordinate well with Asian and Brocade dresses. Even the fishnet varieties are available in different shades and colors which blend well with the tartan dresses. The opaque coverage is also body hugging and are perfect accessory for boots.
Many brands of reputed fashion houses manufacture pantyhose like Calvin Klein. Their exclusive technology offer unique fit which is comfortable and durable. Its matte sheer total shaper offers a subtle coverage and provides shaping and firming control from the waist to mid-thigh for a smooth and shapely look.

History of Embroidery..

Embroidery is an age old art form that has decorated clothing, bedding, and household goods for hundreds of years. Using colored threads to create patterns has dated back to the time of ancient Egypt, when women sewed metallic threads into clothing for decoration. The trend caught on with Babylonians, Phoenicians, and Hebrews, who all began incorporating embroidered pieces into their clothing.
The oldest embroidered piece in existence is the world famous Bayeux Tapestry, dating from approximately 1066. Although the piece is called a tapestry, it is actually as embroidered composition reaching an astounding 231 feet long. Recalling the Battle of Hastings, the piece still hangs in the town of Bayeux in the province of Normandy in France. This beautiful embroidered piece is though to have been created by over 100 noble women in the town and is speculated to take several years to complete.
European embroidery changed a great deal over the years, but became a highlight of fashion during the 18th Century in France. These elaborate embroidery designs--often made with metallic and silk threads--decorated everything from women's dresses to men's breeches. This style soon caught on in popularity with the rest of the continent and soon men, women, and children were wearing heavily embroidered fashion. The decoration also served as a symbol of status and wealth in addition to simply adding glitz and glamour to the garments.
Embroidery continued in popularity and soon became a right of passage for girls to be taught by their mothers the time tested stitches and often completed a lovely sampler to showcase the different stitches and techniques. These samplers were passed down for generations and have been sold at auction for phenomenal amounts. Another popular use of embroidery was to dress up homely clothing. Often, homespun cloth or poor quality purchased cloth was the most a family could afford to outfit the members, so the matron of the house embroidered the clothing to make the outfits look fancier.
The end of the 19th Century saw founding of embroidery shops where scores of women completed the delicate stitches by hand. The year 1880 saw the advent of the first embroidery machine, which further mechanized the embroidery shops and produced even more products. Switzerland soon became the forerunner in embroidery designs and technology, with the United States in second, as shops popped up in New York City and Chicago.
Although the times have changed, the embroidery stitches and techniques have remained the same. Technology has greatly advanced and left the 1880s embroidery machine in the dust. Today's machines can replicate thousands of pattern by just a simple push of a button.

Perfect Clothing Size Matters...

Remember, the few days back there was a zero size in clothing, but you may get shocked if you find size smaller than zero. It's true - now fashion designers are coming up with collections sizing minus zero.
Don't have an idea of a minus-zero size women? Well, a good example is the soccer star's wife Victoria Beckham, who has ideal body to easily fit into a minus-zero size. According to one newspaper, her waist is nearly 23 ½ inches. However, the fact is that the population of sliver in America is getting lesser day by day, while the rest are growing in girth and clothing size. American women are certainly growing bigger as a mass. According to leading industry research group, the average woman weighs nearly 155 pounds and is 5 foot 4 inch tall, which is nearly 20 pounds heavier than the woman of 40 years back.
But don't consider that a modern woman is wearing a larger size than her grandmother's size. As per the survey, standard size for a woman of 155 pound woman would be size 16, but thanks to vanity-sizing, she's likely to be wearing size 10 or 12. Today, many companies does not comply standard sizes declared by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), any more. Actually, sizes have been move stealthily a half-inch at a time to that make women feel good by fitting into smaller sizes.
Consider the vanity-sizing as self-illusion factor on a huge group. Women over the 40 finds something wrong if she wears a smaller size at present than she could wear 20 years back. However, many can wear a size 6 pair of Old Navy jeans, even they know that they would not be able to fit into their size 10 Calvin Klein from circa 1980. In fact, it is simply a faith based sizing. People want to believe that they can still slip into a size 6 or 8, no matter if the standard measurement disagrees.
Although, it is very difficult to consider that anyone wishes to be reputed for minus size, as there is concern that the minus zero sizes will become a status symbol for young girls with eating anarchy. Recently, bony models were banned from a runway show in Madrid for being skinny and underweight. The step was taken by the local regulatory, which found that the young girls imitates the models dietary habits and do not take enough food - just become razor thin. However, regardless of the ban, it's difficult to abolish the affect and preference for skinny models - who are still very much in fashion industry.
For any women, this confusing measurement means - "Simply, no answer to the question - what is your size?" Many of them reply - "it depends..." as sizes varies hugely between brands as well time to time. Even, the single sizes vary in a same brand. For e.g. size 8 in Gap is available in four different cuts from curved style to boyish, which is near to the next size. There are also crushingly European small sizes ranging from 34 to 44, that are not possibly fit an average woman in America.
The population of Hispanics and Asians is growing; moreover the aging mass has requirements of new fashion looks. Americans usually get bigger as they pass ages, on the other hand the ethnic mass have completely different proportions. Garment producers are aiming to market their product to a specific mass to make the fits to be different from brand to brand. The concern is that the apparel manufacturers have to match their steps with changing demographics and body sizes found in the U.S.
The solution is, return to reality utilizing standard measurements. However, even that many would love to stick to current sizing charts just to have single-digit sizes rather than returning to double digits. Imagine, the misery of the retailer who would have to tell a 16 size woman that now she has to buy a 22 size. Companies, such as Gap Inc., are targeting to lure both, the smallest and the biggest size buyers, who together make a substantial market portion. In 1990, Gap Inc. unveiled clothing range of size 0 along with introducing a plus-size range for their Old Navy stores at the same time.
Whatever the girth - even the women who fall in between extreme bony and thin should also take heart. If a vanity measurement sustains its movement to downwards at this speed, most of the people would be wearing a minus zero by 2020. Certainly, people will have to rip-out the brands of that size about 10 from this year.

The Designer Handbag- What is The Price for Fashion?

According to many high school hallways, or college sorority parties, if you don't have the right back-pocket designs on your jeans or a designer handbag big enough to hold your laptop and your hand-held chiwawa you are just not cool.
How does one know what is cool in one circle and "totally dorky" in the next? Oh that depends on the circles you run in of course. The name brand, Dickies, are perfectly acceptable threads in a punk rock crowd, but the same pair of jet black polyester straight-legged pants would be "totally dorky" say at a launching party for a new make-up line for runway models.
There are trends in bowling alleys that die-hard loyalists will stand by, claiming there are certain must-haves in bowling fashion. They will probably tell you the brand says it all or maybe it isn't the brand but the image of success. Like the champion bowler who bowled four turkeys in a row- people want to mimic that image of success. For example, if that champion bowler wore the same Lefties Make Better Lovers foam dome hat in the finals, you'd better invest in polyurethane fabrics.
The importance of fashion depends on people's value of certain items, what they stand for and how they are perceived. How much money one spends on the price of fashion is another topic--all depends on the person. Especially if you ask men verses women.
For example, I wouldn't spend the same amount of money on golf clubs that my husband would- nor do I understand it- or want to. Same for the amount of money I might spend on make up or my Prada handbag, or Coach Purse for example. I don't think my husband or any husband will understand the dramatic differences in why men and women spend money on the things we do, unless of course my husband was a Prada handbag designer, then he might be singing my praises on my exceptional taste.
Someone may save up two months of paychecks to afford a pair of shoes, a tattoo or stop buying lattes to get a pair of those True Religion or Seven Jeans. Most of us can say we know where those people are coming from. It is the same reason teenage girls are not lining up outside the mall to buy acid washed, high-wasted "mom" jeans. A guaranteed rebelliousness to not want to dress like our parents is what the fashion industry is thriving on in the first place--constant change and the desire to buy the next hot thing.
According to recent studies in United States, fashion continues to be a leading industry employing 4.64 million people. Hundreds if not thousands of designers are trying to create the next designer handbag that's going to fly off store shelves and hang as arm candy of the next reality TV celebrity.
Fashion, like technology, is already outdated once it is launched on the market. The trick is to find out what the trends are before they are considered a trend. Fashion designers know this of course when they agree on fabrics and textile patterns more than a year or two before the product, made from the fabric is launched.
One way to stay a head of fashion is to analyze the European markets who are overly obsessed about brands and obtaining "the hot look." In opposite worlds of trend setting, the hot fashion in Tokyo, Japan is street style. The youth in the Japanese fashion district of Harajuku make up their own style. They create designs from uncommon fabrics, thrift store finds as well as old traditional garments like kimonos and geta sandals. "Found Objects", or bits and pieces of unwanted materials, are commonly sewn onto the clothing to create an entirely new texture to a once smooth fabric. These new Japanese styles to name a few are the Gothic Lolita, Decora, Kogals, cyber and the punk look.
These expressions were possibly built as a way to define oneself as unique in a conforming society. There are websites and entire books compiled of street style photographs taken on the streets of Tokyo. Some say, Japan has seen and done everything, nothing is considered too abstract or too crazy.
Street style fashion may never travel outside of Japan, or extend further than trendy bars of Paris or Manhattan. Unless the street style moves into Europe or on the subways of New York, or Vogue magazine announces other wise, Americans will be content to purchase their Prada handbags and their Seven Jeans and happily conform to modern American society.

The Prodigy of Textiles.

Since the time Eve tempted Adam to eat the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge which made them aware that they were naked, the need for textile came into existence. Textile which is also referred as cloth or fabric is made of a blend of natural or artificial fibers known as yarn or thread. Raw wool or cotton is processed in a spinning wheel, and long threads are obtained which is known as yarn. The main types of textiles are plain weave, and twill or satin weave. In a plain weave, the threads are aligned in a simple criss-cross pattern. Plain weave is also known as "tabby weave" or "taffeta weave." In twill weave, two or more threads are passed one over the other and are most suited for cold weather. Eg. Denim.
Types of Textile:
Textile is made from many materials such as, animal, plant, mineral, and synthetic. Textile made of animal hair or fur is referred as woolen clothing. Delicate fibers from the cocoon of the Chinese silkworm is taken and woven into appealing silk clothing. Cotton, flax, jute and hemp are some plants used in making clothes. Fibers extracted from pineapple are used, generally with a blend of other fabrics such as cotton. Asbestos fibers are used for making fire blankets. Glass fiber is used for making space suits. Polyester fibers are used either alone or with a blend of cotton.
Story of the Spindle:
In the early ages, weaving was divided among the members of the family itself. Women and girls cleaned the fleece and were responsible for spinning. Spinning was normally done by the unmarried girls of the house called 'spinsters'. This term still exists which denotes an unmarried lady. The process of weaving demands more energy and hence was undertaken by men.
Growth of Textile Industries - Britain's Secret:
The history of textile industry started in Britain as spinning and weaving machines were invented there. During the eighteenth century Britain decided to sustain its control over the textile market through monopoly. Hence it avoided the export of machinery or communication of machinery configurations to foreign countries. Britain decided that monopoly could be maintained only if the textile enigma is preserved.
Later on during the 19th century, textile industries spread across to Europe and North America and further developed after highly technical machineries entered the market. Now, the value of global textile market is more than $400 billion. Industry enthusiasts predict that still there will be a growth of 25 per cent by 2010 in the textile industry and Asia will be leading the textile market.
Global Textile Retailing:
Textile retailing has developed drastic changes in the past few decades. Textiles and clothing are among the sectors where developing countries have the most to gain from. Retailing has become more rigorous particularly in the textile sector. It has brought a lot of employment opportunities and also a considerable amount of export surplus. It can be termed as a self-reliant industry with significant value addition in various phases starting from the consumption of raw material to delivery of finished goods. Fashion retailers face tough competition with the supermarket chains as the latter has started selling clothes which were so far available only in fashion shops. Countries like UK, Germany, Netherlands, Austria and Sweden contribute relatively more to textile production.
The fact that China's textile exports has increased in leaps and bounds during 2005 has caused ripples in the international textile market. To take control of China's domination in the global textile market, US and European Union has placed severe restrictions on the import of textile products from China. The consequence of this restriction is in favor of India, where it has a rosy future in two money-spinning markets. The overall textile exports from India to these two countries increased by 26 percent and 18 percent respectively. The overall exports from India are expected to rise by 15 percent more making it a "Vertically Integrated Textile Powerhouse".
